Well the picture above sums up the Patriots week 2 performance. Hey coach, how’d we do?
Offensively speaking, James White caught 7 passes for 73 yards. We got to see Sony Michel make his NFL debut (10 rushes for 34 yards and 1 catch for 7). We saw Chris Hogan catch 2 TD passes from Brady…Let’s see…that’s about the only good things I can say about the game and I really struggled to come up with that.
Our pass defense was putrid giving up 377 yards and 4 TDs. Our rushing defense was mediocre at best giving way to 4.3 yards per rush.
We lost both Patrick Chung and Trey Flowers in the first half to concussions.
Let’s see, did I miss anything?
Now listen, as rough as I’m being on the Pats right now, we missed a 54 yard field goal early in the game. We had a chance to recover a fumble on Jacksonville’s first series, we lost a fumble while we were gaining some serious momentum. Jacksonville could have easily been called for encroachment or offsides late in the game to keep a drive alive. White was initially ruled to have made a first down, but the call was later overturned and we had to punt. We’re used to the Patriots having these bounces come our way and today they just didn’t.
It’s not time to panic people. The season is a long one. We’ll have Edelman back in 3 weeks. I’m assuming the Pats will make a move and pick up another receiver. We’ll have Burkhead healthy. Sony Michel will continue to progress. Gronk will return to Gronk form. Give it some time and don’t abandon ship. The AFC is still ours for the taking. Hold the line and we’ll be talking playoffs in no time.
