Just 10 games on the slate today.
CJ Cron (13) and Christin Stewart (11) both leave the yard in Detroit’s 3-1 win over Oakland. Jordan Zimmerman gives up the 1 run over 7 innings for win number 3. Khris Davis 0-4 and down to .271. Can he make it all the way down to the .240’s in 11 days??
Vladimir Guerrero Jr blasts his 9th home run of the year. Texas gets 1 in the 9th on an RBI double from Rougned Odor, but that’s as close as they can get. Toronto wins this one 2-1. Newly acquired Mychal Givens picks up his first save for the Jays.
Kansas City gets 1 in the bottom of the 9th to turn out the lights against the White Sox 3-2. Lucas Giolito leaves after 2 2/3 with back spasms and Michael Kopech tosses 3 innings giving up 1 hit while striking out 4. He might be figuring it out!
Albert Pujols helps the Angels beat the Twins with his 7th bomb of the year. Brian Goodwin adds his 9th as Los Angeles takes this one 5-3.
Evan Longoria 1-4 with 2 RBI as the Giants down the Padres 4-2 to split their 4 game series. Tyler Anderson gives up 2 runs over 7 innings and is now 2-0 with a sub 2.00 ERA.
Starlin Castro goes 3-4 with an RBI and 2 runs scored in Washington’s 6-3 victory over the Mets. Anibal Sanchez tosses 7 innings giving up 3 runs on the way to his 5th win.
Adam Frazier hits a pinch hit 2-run walk-off home run in the 9th to secure Pittsburgh a victory over the Cardinals 3-1. Carlos Martinez pitches 6 innings of shutout ball to drop his ERA to 1.62 over 72 1/3 innings.
The Cincinnati bats were on display today. Nick Castellanos hits his 9th, Tucker Barnhart with his 7th and Mike Moustakas blasts numbers 15 and 16 as the Reds top the Cubs 5-2. Luis Castillo gives up 2 runs over 7 innings and now has a 6-2 record.
The streak….has ended. Garrett Cooper goes 0-4 and that’s pretty much what Miami did as a team as they get shut out by they Phillies 2-0. Zack Wheeler pitches the first 8 1/3 of this one to even his record at 5-5.
A bombfest between Colorado and the Dodgers today. Trevor Story (19) and Nolan Arenado (14) flex for the Rockies, but the firepower of the Dodgers is too much as Max Muncy (14, 15), Mookie Betts (15) and Gavin Lux (8) all have round trippers as LA wins this one 6-4. Walker Buehler pitches a complete game for win number 6.
Transactionally Speaking
The Yankees get Jonathan Loaisiga back;
St. Louis officially releases Adam Wainwright;
Rockies sign Ivan Nova;
Washington puts Joe Ross on the 60-day IL with shoulder inflammation; and
With the 17th overall pick, YOUR Boston Red Sox selected 18 year old center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong. He hit .446 with 2 home runs 29 RBI and 17 stolen bases in 92 at bats for his senior year at Harvard-Westlake.
“The Yankees get Jonathan Loaisiga back,” you wrote. Oh, be still my heart. And what’s with “YOUR Boston Red Sox”? WHOSE Boston Red Sox?!?! Did the Bombers-hating sim put it that way? Hmmm…
