We’ve got 11 holiday games for you today, so let’s get to it!
Ramon Urias hits his 1st major league home run in Baltimore’s 5-3 victory over the White Sox. Jose Abreu hits his 8th and Dylan Cease drops to 2-7 in the loss.
The Yankees take down the Mariners 7-1. All New York runs come courtesy of the long ball. Aaron Judge with his 10th, Gary Sanchez his 5th, DJ LeMahieu with his 2nd, and Giancarlo Stanton with his 15th. Masahiro Tanaka gives up the 1 run over 8 innings for his 5th victory.
Casey Mize with another solid outing. He pitches 6 innings giving up 1 run on 9 hits to move to 5-3 on the year. Tigers beat Tampa 7-1. Willy Adames 4-4 with his 8th home run in the loss.
Xander Bogaerts hits his 10th and JD Martinez hits numbers 9 and 10 in Boston’s 8-6 victory over Kansas City. Matt Barnes gets all 3 9th innings outs by way of strikeout to grab his 11th save of the year and now has 30 K’s in 19 innings of work. KC has now lost 8 of their last 9.
Matt Chapman with his 8th home run and Sean Murphy with his 6th in Oakland’s 7-2 defeat of Houston. Khris Davis 2-4 to bring his average to .292. The June 15th date for Davis to be hitting .240 looks a little unrealistic, I guess.
Brian Goodwin blasts 2 shots out of the park as the Angels blank the Indians 3-0. Los Angeles somehow needs 6 pitchers in the 3-hitter and my boy, Jo Adell, is looking foolish in the bigs with another 0-3 day and is now down to .169.
A little NL action…The Nationals put up 9 against the Marlins today and take this one 9-5. Eric Thames 2-3 with his 8th blast and Adam Eaton was 3-5 to move to .407. Anibal Sanchez gives up 1 run over 5 2/3 to move to 4-2.
Freddie Freeman homers in back to back games and Ronald Acuna Jr. goes 2-4 with 2 RBI as the Braves top the Cardinals 6-2. Cole Hamels gives up 1 earned run over 5 2/3 to win his 2nd game.
Mike Yastrzemski crushes his 3rd round tripper and Brandon Belt joins with his 6th as the Giants take out the Pirates 4-2. Pablo “Fat Panda” Sandoval lines out in a 5th inning pinch hit appearance to drop to .385.
The Reds’ bats wake up in the 8th inning led by Nick Senzel’s 2-run pinch hit home run off of Drew Pomeranz. Luis Castillo gives up 1 earned run over 7 1/3 in the no-decision. Cincinnati takes the Padres down 4-3. Fernando Tatis Jr. with his 8th home run in the loss.
Colorado out-muscles the Dodgers 11-7. David Dahl was 3-4 and both Nolan Arenado and Elias Diaz drove in 3 runs on the day. Zach McAllister injured while pitching in this one. Early reports indicate that he’ll miss 4-5 months with a torn meniscus.
Transactionally Speaking:
The Michael Pineda returns from his rehab assignment and Sergio Romo is designated for assignment to make room;
The Dodgers put Zach McAllister on the 60-day injured list; and
The Red Sox demote Bobby Dalbec to AA. He was hitting .241 with 7 home runs and 24 RBI while striking out 63 times in 174 at bats.
That’s your Memorial Day around the diamond. Now get out there and grill some burgers and drink some beers!
