The Chicken

And here we go!

Bo Bichette blasts an 8th inning grand slam off Yankees’ reliever Chad Green to account for all of Toronto’s runs in their 4-2 victory today.  Nate Pearson pitches the first 5 1/3 giving up just 1 in the no-decision.

In this episode of “That’s Bizarre,” the Red Sox call up Michael Chavis for today’s game where he promptly hits 2 home runs and drives in 5, and as a congratulations, they send him right back down to AAA after the game.  Sounds like a Sox move to me!  Boston beats Texas by a score of 8-1.  Tanner Houck, so far an enigma, goes 5 2/3 giving up no runs while striking out 9.

In some inter-league fun, the Giants top the Indians 5-3.  Buster Posey with a 2-run double, and Johnny Cueto gives up 3 runs over 8 innings on the way to his 3rd win.

Anthony Santander and Renato Nunez both go deep in Baltimore’s 4-1 victory over the White Sox.  John Means gives up just 1 run on 4 hits through 6 innings for his 3rd win of the year.

Tommy La Stella and Justin Upton both with clutch doubles in the bottom of the 9th as the Angels come back and beat the Twins 7-6.  Mike Trout adds his 9th home run.

Nate Lowe hits a long ball off of Oakland closer, Liam Hendriks, but the Rays fall just short in this one 2-1.  Frankie Montas continues to shine, pitching 7 1/3 of 1 hit ball to move to 3-0.

Jose Altuve goes yard for the 9th time and rookie right-hander, Yohan Ramirez combines with Joe Biagini to one-hit the Mariners.  Houston wins this one 6-0.

In a 6-6 tie in the bottom of the 9th, Rhys Hoskins pummels his 2nd home run of the day.  A solo shot would have been enough, but a 3-run job is even sweeter.  Philly knocks out Colorado 9-6.

The Reds beat the Nationals 6-1.  A 3 for 5 day with an RBI and run scored for Nick Castellanos.  Sonny Gray gives up 6 hits and a run through 8 to even his record at 3-3.

Josh Bell has himself a day today going 4 for 4 with a home run and 6 RBI as the Pirates smoke the Marlins 7-0.  Pittsburgh starter, Joe Musgrove exits after the 2nd inning and did not return.

Atlanta rookie outfielder, Christian Pache finding some early success going 3 for 4 with his first home run in the bigs.  Bryse Wilson goes 7 innings without giving up a run in Atlanta’s 6-2 win over the Mets.

Jedd Gyorko scores the game-winner in the Brewers’ win over the Cardinals 5-4.  Carlos Martinez pitched well, giving up a pair of solo home runs over 6 innings, but the bullpen couldn’t secure the victory.

Ketel Marte and Kyle Schwarber exchange 2-run blasts, but it’s Nick Ahmed’s walk-off single in the 9th that saves the day for Arizona.  D’backs 3, Cubs 2.  John Lester and Madison Bumgarner have matching 6 innings and 2 earned run performances in their respective no-decisions.

Manny Machado goes 4 for 6 with his 11th home run and 3 RBI, but it’s all for naught.  In the top of the 12th, LA explodes for 5 runs, highlighted by doubles from Cody Bellinger, Max Muncy, and Enrique Hernandez which results in a Dodgers’ 9-4 victory over the Padres.

Not much in the transactions department, but the Twins designate Mark Reynolds for assignment (maybe 2 years too late), and the Padres activate Brian Dozier.

And there you have MLB’s daily highlights!
