June 1

June!  JUNE!  June and there’s still no baseball.  Hopefully we get some soon!

Tyler Naquin hits his 2nd home run of the season and Carlos Santana with his 8th as Cleveland takes down the Red Sox 5-1.  Aaron Civale pushes his record to 5-0 giving up the 1 run over 6 2/3.  Collin McHugh was rather lousy yielding 11 hits and 5 runs over 5 innings to drop to 3-2 on the year.

Mike Trout has a 3-run shot (17) off of Corey Kluber, but it wasn’t enough as Texas cranks 4 out of the yard, led by Danny Santana (13) and Willie Calhoun (12).  Kloobs fans 10 over 7 innings while giving up 4 runs to move to 3-6 as the Rangers top the Angels 10-4.

In a battle of divisional leaders, Minnesota doubles up the Rays 4-2.  Jorge Polanco keeps the hot streak alive going 2-4 with an 8th inning RBI double.  Jose Berrios strikes out 8 in 6 innings giving up 2 runs to pick up win number 6.

Seattle hangs a 10 spot on the Yankees today.  Mitch Haniger goes 3-4 with his 4th home run to go with 4 runs scored and newcomer, Jonathan Lucroy adds a 3-4 day with his 1st homer.  Yusei Kikuchi gives up 4 runs over 6 1/3 to garner his 5th win.  Luke Voit (9), Gleyber Torres (13) and Giancarlo Stanton (17) all leave the yard in the loss as the Mariners top New York 10-5.

Milwaukee scores 4 in the 9th highlighted by a Lorenzo Cain 2-run double as the Brewers beat the Nationals 6-5.  Max Scherzer whiffs 8 over 6 1/3 while giving up just 1 run in the no-decision.

Victor Coratini hits a bases loaded double in the 1st and ends up 2-4 with 4 RBI in the Cubs’ victory over the Reds 5-2.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. with his own bases loaded double, but St. Louis scores 2 in the 8th by RBI singles from Paul Goldschmidt and Matt Carpenter as the Cardinals beat the Blue Jays 5-4.

Yonathan Daza goes 4-5 and Garrett Hampson 2-5 with 2 RBI as the Rockies come out on top of the Diamondbacks 6-5.  Steven Wright picks up his 1st victory of the year by giving up 4 runs over 6 innings.  Eh!

Atlanta wasn’t impressed with the Dodgers today.  Marcel Ozuna blasts his 9th, a 2-run shot off of Alex Wood, as the Braves top LA 3-1.  Kyle Wright gets his record to 5-2 pitching 6 innings of 1-hit shutout ball, but he was a little wild with 6 walks.

Transactionally Speaking

Washington designates Aaron Sanchez for assignment;

The Brewers say that relief pitcher, Chris Lee is out for the season and will undergo elbow ligament reconstruction surgery;

The Padres put Francisco Mejia on the 10-day IL with hamstring tendinitis;

The Giants say that relief pitcher, Logan Webb will miss the rest of the season with shoulder inflammation; and

The Red Sox purchase the contract of Brian Johnson from AAA.

That’s your first day of June around the diamond!

  1. SERIOUSLY?!?!? Does the sim think Ed Whitson is still pitching for the Bombers??? The starting pitching is not that bad. I really can’t see the abnormally-frequent blowouts happening. On the plus side, the Sox lost. 😀
