Another weekly roundup coming your way in 3…2…1…

Brendan McKay leads us off by telling the Tampa Bay bullpen to take the night off as he twirls a 3-hit masterpiece against the Orioles.  McKay strikes out 7 and walks 2 in the Rays’ 2-0 win.

Miguel Sano is moving up the home run leader board with his 15th today, but that was pretty much Shane Biebers’ only mistake as the Indians show the Twins the door 7-4.

Cody Bellinger belts out his 17th home run in the 6th inning and that proves to be the game-winner as the Dodgers top the Royals 2-1.  Julio Urias pitches 5 2/3 of 1-run ball to move his record to 3-0.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hits his 9th home run, but the power of Yoan Moncada and Eloy Jimenez prove to be too much in the White Sox 3-2 victory over the Blue Jays.  Dallas Keuchel gives up 3 hits over the first 8 innings to pick up his 2nd win of the year.

Alex Verdugo and Rafael Devers continue to be the duo in Boston.  They team up to go 6-9 with a home run (Devers) and 7 RBI as the Red Sox pummel the Rangers 9-2.  Eduardo Rodriguez gives up 2 runs over 8 innings to improve to 6-2 despite his ERA being over 4.00.

Khris Davis sees his average eek back over the .300 mark thanks to his 2-4 day.  Austin Allen drives in Stephen Piscotty in the top of the 10th and the Angels can’t figure out Liam Hendriks in the bottom half of the inning.  Oakland takes this one 5-4.

Detroit puts up 11 runs without the benefit of a long ball.  Victor Reyes and Niko Goodrum both 3-4 on the day as the Tigers beat the Mariners 11-2.  Jordan Zimmerman gives up both runs in 8 2/3 on his way to victory number 2.

The Yankees dominate the Astros 10-1.  Gio Urshela and Giancarlo Stanton both go yard today and Gerrit Cole wins back to back games for the first time this year.  He strikes out 10 in 7 innings while giving up the 1 run.  Lance McCullers Jr. gives up 8, count them 8, unearned runs in the 2nd inning to save his ERA some serious inflation.

Over in the NL, Addison Russell hits a 2-run shot in the top of the 13th to seal the Phillies fate.  Cardinals win 5-3, with all 3 Philly runs coming by way of solo shots, 2 by Bryce Harper and 1 by Rhys Hoskins.

Brandon Nimmo singles home Amed Rosario in the bottom of the 12th to end the Pirates’ day 5-4.  Apparently señor Keough knows somebody that knows somebody that had a cup of coffee with Tomas Nido.  He’ll be happy to know that Mr. Nido hit his first home run today, a 3-run blast in the bottom of the 9th to force extra innings.  How ’bout that!

The Reds continue to score runs in bunches as they down the Brewers today 7-2.  Tucker Barnhart goes 3-4 with his 6th home run and 3 RBI and Trevor Bauer gives up 2 runs in 6 1/3 innings to grab his 5th victory.

Monte Harrison for President!  Just 1-3 today, but that 1 hit left the stadium, his 9th of the year.  Marlins take down the Rockies 3-1.  Trevor Rogers with his 4th win and sees his ERA lower to an even 4.00.

The Diamondbacks get the better of the Nationals 8-1.  Starling Marte with his 3rd round-tripper of the year.  Madison Bumgarner pitches a complete game 5-hitter for his 5th victory of the 2020 campaign.

Yolmer Sanchez goes 4-5 with 2 RBI and Billy Hamilton has 2 bases loaded doubles resulting in a 6 RBI day in San Francisco’s 11-1 thrashing of the Braves.  Johnny Cueto gives up 5 hits, including a Cristian Pache solo home run, in 8 2/3 innings to get his 5th win.

And finally, with line of the day, Kris Bryant goes 3-4 with 2 home runs and 7 RBI as the Cubs trounce the Padres 12-1.  Old man, Jon Lester, gives up 3 hits over 8 innings.  One of those hits, Manny Machado’s 14th bomb.  Lester picks up win number 2 and sees his ERA go under 5.00 for the 1st time since April 5th!

Transactionally speaking:

San Diego puts Chris Paddock on the 15-day IL with “dead arm”;

Yankees activate James Paxton and send him to AAA for rehab; and

Brewers release rookie-leaguer, Joneiker Ponce de Leon.  Not signifcant, I just wanted to say that name!

Standings:

Tampa Bay keeps 4 1/2 games distance between themselves and the Red Sox;

Royals are just 1/2 game up on the Twins;

Angels have 4 games over Houston;

Braves lead the Nat’s by 1 1/2 games;

St. Louis extends to 5 games over both Pittsburgh and Cincinnati; and

Dodgers stay 6 games better than the Padres.

Major League Leaders:

Adam Eaton sees his average drop to .406, but it’s still good enough for 1st;

Cody Bellinger leads in 3 categories, 17 home runs, 47 RBI, and 49 runs scored.  For those of you keeping score at home, he’s also 4th in average at .355.  COULD IT HAPPEN???;

Adalberto Mondesi has 23 steals, but Mallex Smith is running his way back into the picture and is just 1 behind;

Carlos Martinez is your ERA leader at 1.79;

Jack Flaherty sits atop the wins category with 7.  5 more pitchers tied at 6;

Gerrit Cole dethrones Justin Verlander with 87 K’s;

Zack Greinke sports a .85 WHIP; and

6 pitchers are tied with 12 saves.

Awards:

Jose Altuve is your American League Player of the Week with a .600 average, 3 home runs, 10 RBI and 5 runs scored.  I fear telling you that all 6 games were at home…cameras must be well hidden!; and

It comes as absolutely no surprise, Monte Harrison is your National League Player of the week by hitting .522 with 6 home runs and 15 RBI.
